Tekna Sogn og Fjordane supports mathematical playrooms at ViteMeir

Tekna will contribute NOK 110,000 to develop the mathematical universe on ViteMeir .

– It's great that they dared to invest in us and support us, says Kristin Myhra Sæterdal.

Tekna Sogn og Fjordane has contributed 110,000 kroner to realize the Sophus Lie universe on ViteMeir .

–The local association is responsible for ensuring that the association's activities are maintained and developed locally. Increased recruitment to Tekna subjects is a very high priority. We therefore support all science centers in Norway and want to be a supporter of ViteMeir , says leader Øystein

“Without imagination, one cannot become a mathematician”

Sophus Lie was a mathematician born in Nordfjordeid in the 19th century, and he will be ViteMeir his mascot. There will also be a room dedicated to his universe with mathematical problems.

– The room will be dedicated to Sophus Lie. One of the things he wrote was: “Without imagination, one cannot become a mathematician.” So it will be a room where children, together with adults, can explore themselves through play and ponder over mathematical concepts, says Myrha Sæterdal.

And the money is well spent as they develop this mathematical universe.

– It's so good that they took a chance on us so early in the idea process. It means a lot to us that we have them as supporting players in how we developed it, she says.

Tekna is both a technical-scientific and professional association. Their over 80-year-old local association Tekna Sogn og Fjordane branch has experienced good growth in recent years, with nearly 600 members.

 – That is why we are happy to be able to contribute a total of NOK 110,000 this year, from a joint fund in Tekna and our own funds, so that ViteMeir will realize the Sophus Lie room.

Their members have been invited to the opening weekend with a science show, and they look forward to more collaboration in the future.

– Now we are really looking forward to the opening in November! Tekna president Lars Olav Grøvik will also attend the opening, says Øyvind Heimset Larsen.
