Sparebank 1 SMN secures cyclical food waste management
ViteMeir 's vision of a building with no food waste bins is now a reality - I am proud to contribute to the dream of "zero food waste", says Anders Neteland, bank manager at Sparebank 1 SMN.
After launching its visionary plans at the end of last year, ViteMeir can now realize its cyclical food waste project. Sparebank 1 SMN is pledging NOK 265,000 of its social dividend to the purchase of a rapid composting machine.
- This is a prestigious project for ViteMeir that we are pleased that Anders and Sparebank 1 SMN are helping us to realize," says Erlend Fardal Lunde, CEO of ViteMeir.
ViteMeir Its vision of operating without food waste bins is about both reducing food waste and making the best possible use of food waste as a resource. In addition, ViteMeir as a science center wants to include different ways of handling food waste in its communication to schools and kindergartens.
- A lot of exciting things are happening in this field, with rapid composting playing a key role in our communication and operations. We are also looking at the potential for, among other things, our own caterpillar farm and hydroponic cultivation. We want to be at the forefront in this area," says Lunde.
Sparebank 1 SMN has a stated strategy of being a driving force for green transition and is very pleased with its new collaboration with ViteMeir. The bank emphasizes that this contributes to one of the most sustainable projects in the region further sharpening its green focus.
- However, making sustainable choices in all decisions is still more costly. Early on in the process, we demanded that our contribution to ViteMeir was conditional on them being able to realize a sustainability project that would otherwise have been difficult to finance. The way Erlend and the rest of the team have responded is impressive," concludes Anders Neteland.
