Solar energy and low greenhouse gas emissions

- We have set the bar high when it comes to the environment and see that what we are building is actually in line with the high ambitions we have had all the way," says Tage Rickard Sundell, responsible for the development at Vestland County Council.

The building must have a low climate impact, both during the construction process and when the center is in use. With high demands and ambitions, environmental focus has always been on the agenda. A requirement has been set that greenhouse gas emissions must be 50 percent lower than for similar reference buildings.

The sorting rate for materials and waste during the construction process must be 85 percent, while it should only generate 25 kg of waste per square meter. These tough requirements were set in the tender competition and weighted by 50 percent. It has therefore been important to use more local manufacturers and suppliers to contribute to short-haul materials and short-haul labor.

- Turnkey contractor Åsen & Øvrelid, Arkitektkontoret 4B, Caverion and all subcontractors have come up with solutions that have made the building project even better, and they have gone a long way towards achieving our ambitions. Together we have achieved more reuse, better use of materials and we see that the overall goal of lower greenhouse gas emissions is well on the way to being met," says Sundell.

When the building comes into operation and ViteMeir moved in, 50 percent of the total energy production will come from solar energy from solar cells on the roof. It is a level of ambition ViteMeir greatly appreciated being a part of:

- The ambitions for the Fyle municipality are great and I am happy that we have a home owner who values the environment and climate as highly as I do. We are very pleased that we are also receiving reports that we will produce more energy than what is indicated, says Erlend Fardal Lunde, marketing manager for ViteMeir .

ViteMeir opens in autumn 2021, with a strong focus on sustainability both in content and in the building.
