Letter to the editor from Jan Einan, NITO

NITO Sogn og Fjordane has been concerned for many years that our area should also have a science center.

A center where children and young people can experience how exciting it is to discover technology, science and natural sciences conveyed in a good and modern pedagogical way.

This was also the reason why NITO Sogn og Fjordane stepped in and financially supported the establishment of Vitemeir in 2017.

We expected that there would be broad political agreement also among central government authorities that a science center should be established in Sogn og Fjordane. Therefore, NITO Sogn og Fjordane was very surprised when we saw the government's proposal for the state budget for 2021. There was not a single krone for Vitemeir.

We know that in order for the center to start up within the next year, they need around NOK 6 million from the state budget. A small sum in a big budget. NITO Sogn og Fjordane will strongly encourage the Storting to make changes to the budget, so that Vitemeir receives this money from the state.

We need a science center for the benefit of children, young people, and businesses in our area of the country.
