The Science Center has a new name!

After a good naming process, the Knowledge Center in Sogn og Fjordane has been named "ViteMeir".

- We think it sounds good. It's a name that's easy to remember and easy to say. And it explains the whole concept: This is a center where you can come to find out more," says Marianne Jevnaker, project manager for ViteMeir.

The naming process has taken some time, as many people have contributed with different points of view. The brainstorming sessions in the fall of 2018 yielded a number of suggestions for names, which has meant that the process has been thorough and good. In addition, the graphic profile and website are in place.

- This should appeal to children, adults, young people, the elderly, tourists, students - in fact, everyone. So the name has to sound good, be easy to say and arouse curiosity. We think "ViteMeir" does just that.

Broad ownership structure

Vitensenteret i Sogn og Fjordane was founded on February 8, 2018, with just over three million in share capital and a broad ownership structure. The largest shareholder is Sogn og Fjordane County Council, but Vestlandsforsking, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, NITO and businesses in the region are also involved.

In addition, the municipalities Sogndal, Lærdal, Luster, Leikanger, Vik, Førde and Florø have participated in the issue.

As of today, Marianne Jevnaker is the only employee, with office space at Campus Sogndal. In addition, a number of resource persons have been recruited, such as Svein Anders Dahl, former director of VilVite.

- Will provide good synergies

ViteMeir is scheduled to be completed for the start of the school year in 2020, and is a science center on a par with VilVite in Bergen and Oslo Science Center (Technical Museum).

- This will be a regional center that is adapted to the entire county. The center wants to provide good synergies between research and education, public agencies and private industry. This will create an arena for brainstorming between young people and various stakeholders," explains Jevnaker, and adds:

- "I'm looking forward to shaping the center going forward. There are so many eager contributors and so much positive input. I believe that together we will achieve something very good.
