Kurt Johannessen (b.1960) works with performance, books, video, drawing, graphics and installation. He has shown his performances in Europe, Asia and America since the early 1980s. These often contain a poetic and minimalist expression. He has had exhibitions in several places in Norway, including Bergen Art Museum and Kunstnernes Hus (2007) and in the Artists' Association (2016). He publishes artists' books through his own publishing house. The books are text-related, or have visual qualities. The text works are often short visual, poetic, and sometimes humorous stories. Johannessen has produced over 100 books. Since 2013, many of the books ( Om-noko ) have been the basis for a series of performance lectures. These books lie at the intersection of philosophy/visual art/poetry/science. In 2019, he produced the exhibition "About 100 Books – 1984-2019". The exhibition was first shown at the Kunstbanken in Hamar and has since been shown in five other locations.

The performance lecture “About Chocolate Cake” is based on the book “About Chocolate Cake”. The book is the 16th book in the series Om-noko, in which Kurt Johannessen examines various aspects of what is. “About Chocolate Cake” grew out of “About Time’s Task” (2017), which considered how everything has changed up until about now, and how everything will change in future times.

The same story can be found in “About Chocolate Cake”, but here the chocolate cake is the center. The time before chocolate cake, the zero point of chocolate cake and the time with chocolate cake are presented. How did chocolate cake enter time and everything, and what plans does it have for future times? This and much other chocolate cake existentialism will be presented in this performance lecture.
